Red Fort ( Lal Quila )

Red Fort : This fort takes its name from the color of the stones used for building the fort (Lal Quila in Indian – Lal = red, Qila = Fort).  It was built by Mogul Emperor Cihan Shah in 1648. Even though Cihan Shah built this fort and the fort bears his name (Sahcihanabat), he chose Agra as capital.

The years in which Red Fort was built coincides with the most powerful era of Mogul Empire. The Emperor used to   walk across the street on an elephant and demonstrate his power to everyone. This fort is a typical Indian-Mongolian historical structure. Many volunteer guides and sellers surround you in the entrance of the fort. The field immediately in front of the Red Fort is a fairground. This fairground is full of acrobats, wizards, magicians as well as vagrants and unemployed of the city. The entrance of the castle is filled with many shops selling souvenirs.

The doors of a completely different world with calm and peaceful spaces open after these obstacles.   Yamuna River flows behind the fort. The height of the rear walls reaches 32 meters in certain places.
